The weather's been real nice since spring came to the city, and today it was sunny but not too warm; a perfect picnic weather! So I took my large lunchbox and cooked something fresh to eat at the park. There is a fairly new and real nice park in downtown called Grand Park. There's cute pink tables and chairs scattered around, a huge fountain where you can walk on, food trucks come and park some weekdays, and a bunch of other things. Oh, and a Starbucks, of course. The park doesn't have a heavy foliage but it's got a variety of interesting plants and trees, so you can stay in the shade and relax.
For lunch, I packed chicken pesto salads, veggie chips, pickles and some of those cute satsuma mini mandarins. When packing food for picnics remember to cook something that tastes good cold or at room temperature, and don't forget the cutlery and napkins!
I think picnics are a great way to shake up the routine once in a while, you can eat outside without going to a restaurant and enjoy a scenery you don't usually have while eating. I love to walk on grass without shoes, and since apartment living most of the time means no garden, the park is the place to do it! I used to be more self conscious back in Guadalajara about things like this (walking barefoot, that is) since for some reason we grow up thinking society frowns upon weirdos, but moving to a country where 'no one knows you' can help silly people like me grow out of those self-destructive thoughts. And honestly, we are all weirdos, it's just some don't want to show it. How did I end up talking about this? I'll just go ahead with the rest of the pictures.
After lunch, I walked with Alex and Neto (a friend from college and Alex's co-worker) back to the crowded part of downtown to say goodbye, and before heading back home I decided to treat myself to a couple macarons from Bottega Louie, since they introduced a new flavor recently. And because you don't need an excuse to go get one of those, they are amazing! If you are in town you should definitely go and try one or a dozen.
So go ahead and have a picnic when the weather is nice!
